As a company comprised of healthcare clinicians, our primary motivation is improving the patient experience. In radiation oncology, we want to ensure cancer treatments go as smoothly as possible, focusing on accuracy, efficiency, and the provision of patient-centered care. In partnership with ALLWIN, our SaaS solutions break down healthcare workflow and data silos to create a seamless experience. By placing the broader electronic medical record (EMR) system at the center of our architecture, Fuse eliminates duplicative and inefficient efforts to enable a future where oncology care moves at the speed of patients. Further, acutely aware of the burdens care providers face, we acknowledge that coding and billing workflows remain problematic. ALLWIN partnered with us to lighten their loads, too.
By facilitating automation of error-prone and time-consuming manually processes, ALLWIN guided our existing technology to robust commercialization. The Fuse-ALLWIN collaboration allowed us to not only establish our initial foothold in the radiation oncology market in the Southeast U.S., but to expand across the country, supporting some of the biggest brands in the industry.
From our point of view, mistakes in radiation oncology coding and billing were too common a problem in facilities nationwide, and both leaving the errors and attempting to resolve them proved draining to health system resources. As insurance companies and Medicare constantly change coding rules and requirements, treatment providers continued to struggle to get paid for the services they provide. By developing software that automates charge capture review and provides quick, seamless access to supporting documentation and medical code guidance, we could close the gap between clinical experience and coding and billing understanding.
Fuse needed to find the right partner—one who would ask the right questions and be willing to grasp a complex industry. Performing a nationwide search of various firms and well-established U.S.-based brands, we sought a trusted commercialization partner to help us design and execute on a project that was safe, secure, and easy to maintain and scale. ALLWIN proved to be the right fit, enthusiastic to collaborate with us to truly understand our needs and the oncology landscape. In this partnership, their software development leaders proved to be critical thinkers, ultimately giving us what we needed, rather than what we initially asked for.
ALLWIN had a full service line to support every aspect of software design while we built out our team and requirements. They allotted us a dedicated project manager, which kept us organized, focused, and working toward key goals. Notably, the company got up to speed on U.S. healthcare regulations and security standards, proving they could be a successful partner in any industry to any company worldwide.
Most importantly, ALLWIN was extremely agile and “start-up friendly,” always willing to work with our budget, needs, and deadlines. As our funding situation evolved, they were willing to scale up or down development power according to our needs. While we initially considered bootstrapping the whole development processes, I’m so relieved we didn’t. They delivered reliable, ongoing expertise for each and every task, and our customer results demonstrate both their effectiveness and their strong commitment to being purpose driven.
Our technology, called S!GNAL, leverages both structured and unstructured data and detailed insights to enable timely correction of data, more efficient coding rule sets, and significant improvements in accuracy to capture lost or missing revenues for healthcare providers. This technology ALLWIN commercialized with and for us has allowed our customers to secure favorable first capture of necessary billing codes, enabling them to recover substantial revenues that were previously at risk.
After failing to charge for revenues, making costly mistakes, and omitting proper documentation, our health system customers are recouping lost money with our solution and delivering a more accurate and efficient workflow in radiation oncology. By freeing up staff through automation, employees are able to execute important patient-facing tasks. In fact, Fuse is seeing 90-95% efficiency gains in the charge capture review process overall. Financially, the average exception dollars realized—based on the customers’ charge master—equates to about $30MM per customer or 3-4MM per linear accelerator.
In addition to current gains enabled by their software, ALLWIN is helping us build using Smart on FHIR, a consistent way to address security and data requirements. The open-source, standards-based API technology is the future of healthcare, and we are excited to be building it into our cutting-edge solutions for a better connected, more efficient healthcare ecosystem. We are grateful to have a collaborative partner in ALLWIN, a forward-thinking team that asks the right questions and executes accordingly.
